During this summer St Luke’s and City University hosted the 10th annual Steps to Success careers event for 180 Year 5 students (aged 9/10) from four local EC1 primary schools.

We also ran a similar event for Secondary schools with 60 year 9 pupils.

Steps to Success is an event for EC1 young people focusing on opportunities in the local area.  The aim of the event is to raise young people’s aspirations and to highlight the accessible pathways to a successful career.  Most of the young people involved reside within the city fringes literally on the doorstep of the city, but many will never have visited.

The students really enjoyed the day and went away buzzing with information and ideas about different careers available to them.

Various businesses from different industries hosted stalls showing slides, playing games and talking about what their job involves.  St Luke’s would like to thank City University for hosting the event and the following companies who provided volunteers and materials.

  • Allianz Global Investors – Finance
  • Laing O Rourke – Civil Engineering
  • University College Hospital UCL – Health Sector
  • Hogan Lovells – Law
  • Slaughter and May – Law
  • Research and Destroy – Graphic Design
  • Kreston Reeves LLP – Accountancy
  • City University
  • Soap Box Youth Centre
