A sign was unveiled on Thursday 15^th March 2018 to direct members of the public to the Edible Yard.  The sign has been placed on the gates of the drive at the back of the centre to give the Edible Yard an elaborate entrance.

It took five sessions to make the sign and the sessions were run by Lily Bakratsa who is is a London-based landscape architect.  She has a focus on community-led public design schemes and has acted as a Landscape Ambassador for the Landscape Institute in the UK since October 2016.

There were nine volunteers involved in different sessions where the preparation included treating the wood so that it would be suitable to be placed outdoors.  The sign was then designed by choosing the size of the letters as well as the colours for stenciling.  It was finally decided to keep the wood its natural colour and to paint the letters in anthracite grey to reflect the double identity of the Edible yard - which is a garden in the heart of the city.

The Edible Yard was created in 2017, when a group of volunteers at St Luke’s decided to convert the car park into a food growing site.  More than 200 different plants were grown in 2017 and more than 150 kilos of vegetable have been harvested.
